Commissioner Paula Azevedo of Brazil’s Administrative Counsel for Economic Defense (CADE), seized on PaRR’s 2019 Spring Video Series as an opportunity to advocate for the world’s eighth largest economy. While Brazil’s competition regulator may be the most sophisticated in Latin American, Azevedo pointed out that it lacks subpoena power and “has very little experience with digital markets and unilateral conduct cases.” Consequently “more than just pick up the phone cooperation with some of our counterparts,” she explained, what would be very helpful is “having access to confidential information.”
