Margarida Matos Rosa, President of the Portuguese competition authority, discusses the latest developments related to the transposition of the European Competition Network Directive, and the benefits it could bring to Portugal. Matos Rosa also discusses her agency’s cooperation within a network of other Portuguese-speaking agencies, at a time of rapid change in antitrust enforcement in Africa. On the Franco-German proposal to change approaches to competition enforcement in the wake of the blocked Siemens-Alstom merger, Matos Rosa cautions against changing an existing regulatory structure which took time to build and consolidate and which has worked well and effectively so far.
